I love to write, yet sitting down to write my first Newsfeed post for The Local Biz website had me stumped—for a long while! I kept putting off the task as much as I could. I realized though, the longer I put it off, the harder it would be to motivate myself to write it. So one morning, I decided to stop procrastinating any longer. I made myself a cup of chai tea, sat down in front of my computer and got to writing. Believe it or not, the words flowed to my fingertips easily.

I guess I should start by telling you a bit about myself. I grew up in Scarborough and moved to Ajax when I got married. I have a husband whom I love to pieces. I also have a feisty cat that I adore, but I secretly yearn for a dog. (What can I say, I am a dog person.) My husband and I currently do not have any kids, although that will soon change… We are expecting our first child as I write!

It seemed so surreal to me when I became a “wife” a few years ago, and it’s even more surreal to me that I am going to be a “mother” soon. I don’t really know what to expect in the coming months. Sure I’ve read books and have been given countless advice on what is in store for me, but really, who is fully ever prepared for parenthood before they become a parent? It’s going to be new territory—and that’s exciting, but scary at the same time! Part of me can’t wait; part of me wants to run in the opposite direction.

There are some people who embrace change and the unknown in life. (I should know; I’m married to such a person!) Then there are others who are weary of it. What’s going to happen, what will life be like, how will we adjust—those are questions that linger in our minds because they cannot be answered beforehand. I’ve come to realize that change in life is inevitable. It will happen regardless of anything you do, or don’t do for that matter. What we can control however is our reaction to a change in our circumstances. Do we adjust and make the best of it (not an easy thing to do), or do we resist it, fight it and complain? In the past, I’ve done the latter. I’ve resisted, fought and whined. I’m trying to do things differently now. Trying is the key word—I’m a work in progress! 😉

In my Newsfeeds to follow, I’ll be Newsfeedging about life in Durham as a young woman, a wife, a mother, a cat owner / wannabe dog owner, a cake decorator (yes—I bake and decorate cakes), and of course, an editor. I wear many hats in life (we all do), and my Newsfeeds will reflect that. I hope you will follow me and the other awesome Newsfeedgers on The Local Biz website as we take you on a journey into our personal and professional lives. That journey will be diverse, informative, educational, practical, inspirational and most importantly, positive. And who wouldn’t want to be a part of that?
