This past week I’ve been taking my son out and about to different programs at my local community centre and library. The programs range from active playtime in the gym, story-time at the library and various other structured and non-structured activities.

Being a first time stay-at-home mom, I am constantly amazed by all the events that Durham Region offers for parents, caregivers and their children. Many (not all) of these are in conjunction with the Ontario Early Years Centre (OEYC) and are often free. Most are drop-in with a few requiring registration in advance.

I had no idea what was going on in my community because I never took the time to look, but a little research goes a long way, and now I have something pretty much everyday of the week planned. It makes for a happy toddler, which makes for a happy mommy! So if you are a mom, dad, grandparent or caregiver with a young child and are looking for something to do, here’s where you need to go:

  • Your local library
  • Your local community centre
  • Ontario Early Years Centre

Now get out of the house, go meet other parents and have a good time! 🙂
