Life is interesting. My name is Linda. I was born in the middle of the last century in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, England. I was lucky enough to be a teenager in the sixties. My family came from England when I was ten. Our contact with family was by mail (airmail of course!). In emergency situations or to share good news, you sent a telegram. We didn’t have a phone in England so our first phone was in Canada. Our British relatives got phones some time later but I don’t remember when. Back then you had to book overseas calls for Christmas Day.

My Welsh grandfather ran away to sea when he was fourteen. (He started trying when he was twelve but his mother kept going and getting him and bringing him back home). He was a cabin boy and sailed around the world on a sailing ship. I don’t imagine his family heard much from him and probably worried a lot. Now, in an instance, I can be in touch with family and friends using my computer and smart phone. I feel as if people of my generation are like a bridge between the old and the new, cursive writing and the keyboard. What a change in communications.

I’ve always liked to write and I still have most of the writing I did when I was in school. I’ve gone to various writing classes and have belonged to writing groups. I like to write short stories such as murder stories and stories with surprise endings. I write about our family history. When I travel, I keep a journal that gets to be pretty long.

I read a couple of great introductory columns. This is mine. In my Newsfeeds to come, I plan to Newsfeed about history, museums, cruises recipes and other things that interest me. I hope you’ll follow my posts and share your thoughts with me.
