Do you ever feel like the month November creeps up just like that?

I find that after summer, there’s “back to school” season, then comes Thanksgiving, then Halloween and before you know it, we’re in November. Besides Remembrance Day which is coming up on the 11th, it appears that November is really the month when we start the (long?) countdown to Christmas. Although… the countdown to Christmas seems to have already begun this past weekend, when Halloween decorations and candy were 50% off at most stores. Did you notice the aisles being cleared for Christmas decorations? One store I visited had their Christmas trees up before Halloween. Yes, you heard me. Before! It was very odd to see ghouls and goblins, and Christmas trees, lights and tinsel all under one roof!

November to me is akin to the middle child in a family. Heck, I’m going to call it the “middle child month”. Because it falls between Thanksgiving and Halloween on the one end, and then Christmas and New Year’s on the other, it doesn’t seem to get its due respect. It’s as though people just anticipate the upcoming holidays once November gets here. (In the States it’s a different story because Thanksgiving is in November.)

So let’s give November it’s due respect this year. Let’s live in the moment and enjoy each and every day in November! …And let’s leave the anticipation  and countdown to the holidays to December!
