After Christmas, Thanksgiving is one of the main holidays for many Canadians. Many of us managed to celebrate Thanksgiving in some way, but in a different way to other years.  After a summer of holidays and school staring up, in other years, Thanksgiving is a chance to sit down and take a deep breath. Things are back to normal again. But not this year. Nothing has been normal since March. Some folks call this the new normal. I did manage to make turkey pot pie and turkey shepherd pie with the leftover turkey. They are in the freezer for future meals.

I had my winter tires put on last week. Hope that keeps the snow away! It’s also time to dig out warmer clothes and get ready for winter. For many of us, it’s time to do some Christmas shopping so we aren’t rushed during the Christmas season. I have already got a bit done, but lots more to go.

I brought in my geraniums and garlic for the winter. I also brought in some lavender, stephia and basil to see how they survive indoors. Now I’m getting my planters ready to pack away for the winter.

My son will turn forty-four on October 25 and my grandson will turn sixteen on November 1. How can a thirty-nine year old have such old offspring? lol This COVID thing makes celebrating special occasions a bit more difficult.

Now we are being told that Durham Region could go back to a lower level two. I don’t think that things like restaurants should be forced to close down again if they aren’t responsible for the spread of the virus. Any restaurants I have been in are super cautious. From what I’ve seen on the news, bars were responsible in Toronto for a lot of cases of COVID, not restaurants. Let the poor restaurant owners have a chance to stay in business. They are certainly doing their best in very difficult times. If they are left alone, maybe you might think about going out for a meal. People who work in restaurants usually express their thanks for us going in to eat.

I took my dog Suzie out to Pet Valu to buy her food the other day. This time, I managed to stop her from shoplifting! In the store, they were selling dog cookies to support TAGS for $5.00. I adopted Suzie through TAGS which does a great job of rescuing dogs using only funds that are donated. I imagine a lot of places that depend on donations are suffering at this time.

Time change coming up. A lot of people think we should stick with standard time and not change twice a year. I agree with them.

Halloween is something else that is suffering because of COVID. My sister and I are going to make bags of treats to take to the three houses around us where there are kids. They’ll get their treats and their parents won’t have to worry about them picking up the virus. Happy Halloween!
