The City of Oshawa has officially opened its first BMX Bike Park, providing several active and passive recreational activities for people of all ages. It is a progressive skill park, with numerous options to allow users with a range of skill levels to practice and develop their skills. The first phase of the bike park is a 5,000-square-metre dirt jump track, with bermed corners, rolling step ups/downs, rollers, double rollers and tilted rollers and is divided into beginner, intermediate and advanced tracks.

The park, which is already open and in use, has replaced an unauthorized park on the city’s airport lands. The BMX Bike Park is a “dirt jump-style” facility providing a similar experience to the unsanctioned “Greenland” Bike Trails. The Durham BMX Trails Association has been actively involved in sharing updates about the park’s facilities.

The Trail Hub in Uxbridge is offering a warm, comfortable home base for trail users or those who just want to enjoy a day out in nature. This is a long-time goal of husband-and-wife teams John and Lee Fisher and Rick and Cindy Batty, who purchased the former Skyloft property as a retirement project that would allow them to indulge their passion for nature and the trails.

In addition to fully renovating the facility over the last 15 months, the group has also cut a variety of new trails (240 km) around the property, where users can also connect to existing public trail systems. Users can enjoy the basic 45-minute loop through the property on foot or on bike, with plans for separate and extended trails in the future. The Trail Hub acts as a natural home base for hikers and bikers to enjoy a day out on the trail and come back to the hub for access to washrooms and refreshments.
