Public Art Open House: Downtown Oshawa Urban Square

The City of Oshawa is commissioning a new public artwork for the forthcoming Downtown Urban Square, located at the intersection of Bond Street East and Simcoe Street North in the heart of downtown Oshawa.

The Downtown Oshawa Urban Square will be located in the heart of downtown Oshawa, at Bond Street East and Simcoe Street North. The Square is expected to be completed by July 2025. The square will be a unique focal point of downtown Oshawa, hosting community celebrations, events and concerts that appeal to both community members and visitors, bringing vitality and excitement into the downtown core.

The Open House is an opportunity for the public to learn more about the City’s Public Art Master Plan and provide input related to the forthcoming Downtown Oshawa Urban Square public artwork. Staff will facilitate group discussions, allowing participants to share their feedback and vision for art at this location. Participants will breakout into groups to share their feedback. Attend to learn more about the City’s Public Art Master Plan, to share your vision and learn more about public art in Oshawa.

Community Based Art Project – The How Many Hearts Mural Project

How many hearts does it take to make a community? Join Mary Krohnert and the Living Room Community Art Studio to create a mixed media felted paper quilt that will be exhibited in Delpark Homes Centre! No previous art experience required. Participants are welcome to bring along small personal items that can be integrated into their paper quilt piece (paper, fabric, keys, coins, etc.). Participation is open to all ages and abilities and is free for everyone!

Saturday, July 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. –Delpark Homes Centre, 1661 Harmony Rd.

Both events are presented as part of the City’s centennial celebrations. Visit Park, Recreation, and Culture to learn more about these and other projects happening in Oshawa.
