June is Recreation and Parks Month, and Clarington is celebrating with a calendar of free or low-cost programs promoting the benefits of recreation, parks and being active.

Recreation and Parks Month recognizes and promotes the benefits of being active and the contribution that recreation and parks make to our quality of life. We encourage all Clarington residents to join us for a Recreation and Parks Month event and to discover aClarington park or recreation opportunity near you.

Having access to community parks, trails and open space consistently ranks as a top priority for Clarington residents, as seen in the recentParks, Recreation and Culture Master Plansurvey. In celebration ofJune Parks and Recreation Month, residents are being asked to share why in the #HeartYourParksClarington campaign for a chance to win a Parks Prize Pack, including outdoor toys and swag!

  • Starting June 3, visit aClarington Recreation CentreorLibraryto draw on a small flag showing us why you #HeartYourParksClarington, and turn it into staff to receive a prize. Watch for your artwork to be displayed in municipal facilities!

Newcastle Community Park Opening

More than a thousand residents joined Mayor Adrian Foster and members of Council on June 1 to celebrate the official opening of Newcastle Community Park, located on the west side of theDiane Hamre Recreation Complex. The $3.5 million community park features a tournament-grade hardball diamond, new tennis and pickleball courts, a skateboard park, paved walkways and a shade structure alongside the existing Newcastle Dog Park.

Following a ribbon-cutting and celebratory first pitch with Mayor Foster, attendees were treated to pickleball lessons, face painting, swimming, jumping castles, an obstacle course and colouring station to kick-off the#HeartYourParksClarington campaign.The Newcastle Community Park is located at 1780 Rudell Road in Newcastle.
